Instead of Jail: Pre- and Post-Trial Alternatives to Jail Incarceration. Volume 4, Sentencing the Misdemeanant.
Galvin, John J.; And Others
The fourth volume in a series of publications on alternatives to jail incarceration, this booklet deals specifically with problems of sentencing the misdemeanant. It is written primarily for judges and those who assist them in arriving at and implementing sentences, so it presents a broad range of options and discusses ways of implementing them. Consideration is also given to rationales for their use based on contemporary practices and recommendations of various commissions, organizations, and criminal justice scholars. A number of novel dispositions are cited to demonstrate that the sentencing task can be approached creatively, rather than being shackled by a limited set of stereotyped options into which defendants are pigeonholed.
