An innovative health program arrangement between the University of Maine at Presque Isle and a local hospital is described. The program served to provide cost effective health services for the university and outpatient clinic space for the hospital. (DS)

The Student Health Service at SUNY/Stonybrook overcame underfunding difficulties by cooperative programs with the school of medicine (staff and materials), student participation (technical, clerical, and administrative) and campus health consumer groups (counseling, ambulance club, health store), at no cost, or low cost, to the university. Environmental health and safety programs of various colleges and universities are examined to collect information on (1) possible sources for financing, (2) size and extent of environmental health and safety programs, and (3) ways to develop a technique for predicting start up and operating costs for such programs. A small university's health services program has coped with inflation and budget restrictions without damaging its program by: attracting and maintaining good, efficient staff; eliminating minor services; cooperating with a student advisory board; and broadening its enrollment base. (CJ)
