A chairman organized a group of Ph.D. candidates to work as a team on their dissertations. The students found this stimulating and supportive on the intellectual, social and personal levels. This model for facilitating the development of prehelping skills is a viable model of service delivery. If prehelping skills of attending, observing, and listening are not taught systematically, the development of skills involved in responding, integrative understanding and facilitating action become increasingly difficult. Describes foreign student isolation on American campuses and suggests a training model to educate campus personnel and students to deal effectively with each other. Results indicated the role playing procedure was useful for both students and campus personnel. Both groups benefited from dealing with general cross-cultural issues. (JAC)
