Mentally retarded persons achieved an eighty percent job success rate through efforts of the National Association for Retarded Citizens, with funding from the Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA), when trained by employers on jobs matching their capabilities. The National Urban League's LEAP program has opened career opportunities for nearly 17,000 minority men and women in nine years. Aimed at getting minority groups into apprenticeships in the building and construction unions nationwide, LEAP staff recruit youths at high school career days and in less traditional places. (AJ)
