The Progress and the Promise: Producing Future Faculty... 450 Graduates and Counting. SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program
Southern Regional Education Board (SREB)
The Southern Regional Education Board's SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program, which enrolled its first class in 1993, works to increase the number of minority faculty in the 16-state SREB region by encouraging racial/ethnic minorities to pursue doctoral degrees and become college and university faculty members. In 2009, with 870 scholars served and 450 graduates, the SREB-State Doctoral Scholars Program has an impressive track record and is recognized as a national leader in programs that produce minority Ph.D.s. This paper highlights the program's achievements and several of its graduates.
