The Importance of Trainers/Facilitators within the Community School Network in Russia
Fomina, Elena
Peabody Journal of Education, v95 n1 p46-54 2020
This article seeks to explore the support framework for Community Schools in the Russian regions. As an educational and social phenomenon, Russian Community Schools arose in 1996-1997 in Siberia. By the beginning of 2014, the Community Schools were spread from Kaliningrad in the west to Vladivostok in the east of Russia. The article begins with the question of why Community Schools proved interesting and attractive for Russian teachers and goes on to illustrate the issues of geography and support. The author will articulate the need to develop and encourage trainers/facilitators for Community Schools in the country regions to support the Community School network and the roles of trainers/facilitators within a Community School and the Community School network. The author identifies how trainers/facilitators utilize their expertise to help schools adopt the identified community's social agenda and maintain partnerships to assist inclusive educational environments. Thus, the author analyzes the impact of trainers'/facilitators' efforts on the sustainability of the Community School network. The article describes how Krasnoyarsk Center for Community Partnerships (KCCP) has chosen people to become trainers/facilitators; the skills, values, and attitudes they need; and how we support their efforts.
