Each year, a million new illiterates are being added to the pool of 50 million illiterates in Pakistan. An adult and continuing education program is reviewed. Objectives and needs, program implementation, curriculum requirements, and the role of international cooperation are topics considered. (MW)

The British Broadcasting Company (BBC) Adult Literacy Project is described in terms of the radio and television programs, supplemental workbooks, telephone services, and tutor training programs it is developing. The basic aim of the project is to encourage adult illiterates to seek individualized help. (LH)
