ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Mississippi College
Special education administrators wear many hats as they traverse through a myriad of responsibilities and challenges that they face in their current positions. Increased accountability coupled with rapidly changing legislation adds to the complexity of their job duties. This study examined whether differences existed in special education administrators' job responsibilities and challenges in public school districts in Mississippi in the areas of budgeting, personnel staffing, evaluating staff, policy development, and program development. The perceptions of special education administrators were examined to determine if there was a difference in the job responsibilities and challenges among special education administrators who were employed in urban, suburban, and rural school districts. Quantitative data was gathered from special education administrators through the use of an electronic survey which included demographic information and a series of questions that were answered using Likert scales to address each area. The results of the study revealed that there were no statistically significant differences in job responsibilities and challenges among special education administrators in urban, suburban, and rural public school districts in Mississippi.
