Watch out Here They Come! Exploring Kindergarten Transitions at Little Village Elementary
Jacqueline Morgan
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Doane University
This single qualitative case study explored teacher and parent perceptions of the kindergarten transition program at a small, rural school district in a Midwestern state. Thirteen subjects met the criteria of either being a kindergarten transition teacher or a parent of an incoming kindergarten student and participated in this study. Data was collected from teacher and parent participants through semi-structured interviews. Common themes were pulled from the perspectives shared in the interviews. Four primary themes emerged as a result of the interview conducted. The four themes were: 1) Power of Three Little Village Elementary Transition Events, 2) Recognition of Social Emotional Development Opportunities, 3) Strength Behind Understanding Behavioral and Academic Expectations, and 4) Building Connections Between School and Home. These themes were supported by the research in the literature review. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
