Peer Tutoring at North East High School North East (Cecil County Public Schools), Maryland
Shadle, Susan
Perspectives in Peer Programs, v22 n2 p31-38 Spr-Sum 2010
A program at North East High School (NEHS) was started to help improve state test scores. Senior students work with underclassmen in one of the four state test areas: Algebra, English 10, Biology, and Government to help improve scores with hopes of passing the test. State test scores help to determine whether or not a school will meet their Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) so the more students who pass, the better off the school will be. The thought behind the program is sometimes students learn better from other students because a classmate can break a concept down further than a teacher can.
