Examined post-high school occupational attainment of 45 students who participated in an experiment in voluntary urban-suburban school busing. The analysis of one curriculum reform movement shows that school programs' effectiveness is aided by a consensus both that a problem exists and that a particular solution is desirable. During the past decade, two issues have dominated national debate on education: (1) the existence of substantial gaps in academic achievement between White and non-White students; and (2) the contention that, compared to family background, schools don't make much difference in the academic performance of poor and minority students. Reviews problems of the elderly consumer and describes efforts to provide consumer education to rural elderly individuals through two series of one-day workshops. Presents data concerning social validation of an empirically based training model for increasing job-interview skills. The model was easily employed as an effective training procedure. Student participants reported high levels of consumer satisfaction and identified several components of the model as being most beneficial. (Author)

Analyzes the major factors in the failure of student retention programs in community colleges by using an eight-phase hypothetical retention model which is compared with 18 principles of planned change. Concludes with generalizations and explanations for retention program weaknesses. (WL)
