Zangwill, William M. – Child and Family Behavior Therapy, 1983
Evaluation of training program combining "Feeling" and "Behavioral" models for families with problem children (2-8 years old) showed parents significantly increasing rate of reinforcement and decreasing rate of punishment and children significantly improving rate of compliance. In most cases improvements generalized from clinic to home. (CMG)

O'Hare, Michael; Hogan, John D. – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1983

Gittelman, Rachel; Feingold, Ingrid – Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry and Allied Disciplines, 1983
The efficacy of reading remediation, which emphasizes phonic decoding, was examined in 61 children (ages 7 through 13 years) with pure reading disorders. Comparisons between pre- and post intervention data clearly support the efficacy of remediation. (MP)

Pelham, William E.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1980
Eight hyperactive children (6 to 11 years old) were treated with a behavioral intervention focusing on teacher and parent training over a period of 5 months. The results suggested that the combination of psychostimulant medication and behavior therapy may be more effective in the short term than either treatment alone. (Author)

Verma, Satish – Journal of Extension, 1980
A study was done to determine (1) if interaction exists between the feeling and action components of behavior demonstrable for energy conservation, and (2) the effectiveness of an energy education program in promoting the conservation ethic. An interaction did exist between the feeling and action components of energy conservation behavior. (LRA)

Didden, Robert; And Others – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1997
Meta-analysis of 482 empirical studies on treatment of problem behaviors of individuals with mental retardation found that externally destructive behaviors are less successfully treated than socially disruptive and internally maladaptive behaviors. Shore, Bridget A.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1997
Three experiments involving three adults with profound mental retardation whose self-injurious behavior (SIB) was maintained by automatic reinforcement, examined interactions between stereotypic SIB and the manipulation of objects that appeared to provide substitutable sources of reinforcement. Attempts to reduce SIB using the preferred objects as…

Fisher, Wayne W.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1997
A study of three individuals with self-injurious behavior (SIB) evaluated a device designed for restraint fading with individuals who display hand-to-head SIB. Results demonstrated that stimulus control of SIB occurred in all individuals subsequent to restraint fading. The study also examined the effects of the rigid arm sleeves and restraint…

Vollmer, Timothy R.; And Others – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 1997
Concerns about noncontingent reinforcement (NCR) are illustrated in a case study of a 13-year-old girl with severe mental retardation who was demonstrating severe aggression. Conte, Richard; And Others – Canadian Journal of Special Education, 1994
A behavior management approach, designed to enhance the active involvement of children (ages 6-11) with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, has parents present behavior management situations requiring the child's choice between compliance and noncompliance and involving linkage to a consequence. Having parents (n=75) meet with therapists in…

Lewis, Timothy J.; Colvin, Geoff; Sugai, George – Education and Treatment of Children, 2000
A study examined the effectiveness of implementing a pre-correction and active supervision strategy on the rate of problem behavior during recess. The intervention reduced rates of problem behavior exhibited by elementary students (N=475), but was not effective in increasing rates of active supervision on the part of playground monitors. (Contains…

Murray, Laura K.; Kollins, Scott H. – Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, 2000
A study examined sensitivity to reinforcement in two boys (ages 7-10) with attention deficit hyperactivity using the matching law and evaluated effects of methylphenidate. In the medicated condition, the matching function for both subjects resulted in higher asymptotic values, indicating an overall elevation of behavior rate under these…
