The Parenting on Purpose Program: A Qualitative Program Assessment
Latina Lavonne Lightbourne
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
A program assessment was used to provide the status of the Parenting on Purpose (POP) program. The experiences of active facilitators and participant completers were assessed to evaluate the intended outcomes of the training. The program faced the reality of never being reviewed or having any evidence supporting continued use or greater dissemination. This study may prove that the program works for all stakeholders or must be reworked or discontinued. The goal of the POP is to produce productive raisers of functional adults. The Cleft of the Rock Foundation, Inc offers the POP program. A Qualitative program assessment was used to examine the need and context of the program, and the experiences of 11 active facilitators and participant completers from a pool of all participants between January 2, 2022, and December 11, 2022, provided the same. Through an inductive process and using NVivo12 software, themes were identified based on participant interviews. The results indicated participants believe the program improves parenting knowledge, uses an engaging model, surpasses expectations, and needs no modification. Recommendations for the program include a parent education curriculum for schools, so the teaching, which is so vital, is done in advance of parenthood and in the event of the need for self-parenting. Another recommendation is a focus on training facilitators whose expertise is integral to program success. Finally, the use of 21st-century technology to advance the program, considering such programs are cost-effective ways to prevent maladies for children and families.
