A study investigated 454 internal promotions among the administrative and professional staff in a large public research university over a three-year period. Analysis indicated that despite controls for education, experience, age, and prior position, women received significantly less return to their administrative positions than men. (Author/MSE)

Findings of a study show that relative salary increases for faculty and administrators were quite similar since the early 1970s. The small salary advantage for administrators appears to be attributable to gains in those positions whose work most clearly parallels work done in the private sector. (MLW)

It is believed that the courts have intruded on the prerogatives of academics to use peer evaluations in personnel decisions. An analysis of academic discrimination cases in the federal courts demonstrates that judicial review is deferential to peer judgments and appears to have little impact on colleges' faculty personnel policies.
