Kumar, V. K. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1975
This paper attempted to offer a theoretical framework on the action of Orienters on initiating attentional processes. (Author/RK)
Descriptors: Attention Span, Information Processing, Learning Processes, Prose

Crouse, James H.; Idstein, Peter – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1972
Results supported the conclusion that encoding cues will facilitate prose learning when they result in encoded information required by output which would not otherwise be encoded. (Authors)
Descriptors: Cues, Information Processing, Input Output Analysis, Learning

Howe, M. J. A.; Colley, L. – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
The present experiment was designed to seek further evidence concerning the possible role of retroactive interference in situations whereby students learn information made available in prose form. (Author)
Descriptors: Information Processing, Inhibition, Learning, Prose

Kardash, Carol Anne M.; And Others – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1988
Two studies involving 127 undergraduates provide a direct test of whether an activated schema can influence both the initial encoding and subsequent retrieval of information from prose. Results indicate that schema activation exerts an influence on retrieval processes but not on encoding processes. (TJH)

FRANCIS, W.N. – 1964
A LARGE BODY OF EDITED PRESENT-DAY AMERICAN ENGLISH, FROM A RANDOM SAMPLE OF MATERIAL PUBLISHED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1961, WAS PREPARED IN A FORMAT BY WHICH IT CAN BE TRANSFERRED TO MAGNETIC TAPE FOR USE IN DIGITAL DATA-PROCESSING EQUIPMENT. FIVE HUNDRED SAMPLES, OF 2,000 WORDS EACH, OF INFORMATIVE AND IMAGINATIVE PROSE WERE CHOSEN, EXCLUDING…

Dooling, D. James; Christiaansen, Robert E. – Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Learning and Memory, 1977
According to Barlett (1932) remembering prose is a constructive process. Meaningful material is stored in memory in schematic form and recall is achieved by a process of reconstruction. Bartlett observed that recall becomes distorted with the passage of time. This research deals with constructive remembering over time in terms that are compatible…
