Addressed normative aspects of recent Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory critical item sets in normals (N=123), inpatient alcoholics (N=383) and psychiatric inpatients (N=567). Results indicated that although pathological groups generally endorsed more critical items than normals, mean differences were not large. (LLL)

Beck, Aaron, T.; Steer, Robert A. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1984
Compared versions of the Beck Depression Inventory in psychiatric patients. The alpha coefficient for 598 inpatients and outpatients on the 1961 version was .88, and the alpha coefficient for 248 outpatients on the 1978 version was .86. Concluded that the internal consistencies of both versions were comparable. (JAC)

Surveyed parents (N=80) prior to clinic contact to examine congruence between parent expectations and clinic actions as to the form, duration, and process of treatment. Supported the importance of congruent expectations of treatment form and duration to acceptance of services, but not of treatment process. (JAC)

Surveyed 21 family members of schizophrenic patients to examine the importance of congruence between their attitudes about schizophrenia and the professional's attitude. Results confirmed that families would be more satisfied working with professionals with similar attitudes. (JAC)

Examined the factor structure of the Profile of Mood States (POMS) in samples of psychiatric outpatients (N=165) and adult smokers (N=298). Results indicated that the POMS appears to be an internally consistent, multidimensional instrument with a relatively stable factor structure. (LLL)

Investigated assertive behavior among Black male patients (N=48) under White vs. Black interpersonal partner conditions. Assessed older alcoholics and psychiatric patients (N=235, N=60) on a standard psychological test battery to examine left and right hemisphere functioning.
