Compares concurrent validity of four sex-role instruments administered to a group of 281 urban university students. Reports that the instruments are sufficiently different in their measurement characteristics to warrant limiting generalizations about behavior based on these instruments to a particular instrument being used. Factor analyses were performed on the masculine, feminine, and neutral items of the Bem Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) for gender-schematic and gender-aschematic individuals separately. Results support the BSRI as a valid measure for distinguishing gender-schematic from gender-aschematic individuals. (FMW)

Examines gender stereotyping and the use of alcohol. Analyzes responses of 70 female and 46 male college students to a social stereotyping study derived from the Bem Social Roles ventory. Finds that expectations regarding beer drinking and getting drunk are aspects of traditional male gender role. (FMW)

Explores the relationships between gender, sex typing, and attributional patterns in exam performance in a college classroom. Uses an attributional pretest and posttest and the Bem Sex Role Inventory with a sample of 85 male and 52 female students. Finds that gender and sex typing both affect attributions, but in different ways. (FMW)

Investigates the relationship between sexual orientation and perceptions of self, ideal male, and ideal female using the Androgyny scale of the Bem Sex Role Inventory with 144 college students. Findings include the fact that homosexuals were less likely than heterosexuals to stereotype their perceptions. (FMW)
