Wang, Wei; Tay, Louis; Drasgow, Fritz – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2013
There has been growing use of ideal point models to develop scales measuring important psychological constructs. For meaningful comparisons across groups, it is important to identify items on such scales that exhibit differential item functioning (DIF). In this study, the authors examined several methods for assessing DIF on polytomous items…

Ranger, Jochen; Kuhn, Jorg-Tobias – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2012
Research findings indicate that response times in personality scales are related to the trait level according to the so-called speed-distance hypothesis. Against this background, Ferrando and Lorenzo-Seva proposed a latent trait model for the responses and response times in a test. The model consists of two components, a standard item response…

Sireci, Stephen – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2000
This collection of essays by measurement specialists addresses a variety of important issues in educational and psychological testing. Although not all of the "rules" are new, many topics of contemporary interest are discussed, some in detail that exceeds what the psychologist and educator really need to know. (SLD)

Tong, Ye; Kolen, Michael – Applied Psychological Measurement, 2005
The performance of three equating methods--the presmoothed equipercentile method, the item response theory (IRT) true score method, and the IRT observed score method--were examined based on three equating criteria: the same distributions property, the first-order equity property, and the second-order equity property. The magnitude of the…

Reise, Steven P.; Waller, Niels G. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1990
The Multidimensional Personality Questionnaire (MPQ) was parameterized using the 2-parameter logistic item response (IRT) model. Two samples of 1,000 adults were used. Results suggest that the 2-parameter model fits the MPQ data, and researchers assessing normal-range personality processes have much to gain from exploiting IRT models. (TJH)

Raykov, Tenko – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1993
A general structural equation model for measuring residualized true change and studying patterns of true growth or decline is described. This approach allows consistent and efficient estimation of the degree of interrelationship between residualized change in a repeatedly assessed psychological construct and other variables. (SLD)

Lunneborg, Clifford E. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1977
Three studies are described in which choice reaction time (RT) was related to such psychometric ability measures as verbal comprehension, numerical reasoning, hidden figures, and progressive matrices tests. Fairly consistent negative correlations were found between these tests and choice RT when high school samples were used. (Author/CTM)

Millsap, Roger E.; Everson, Howard T. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1993
This review employs a conceptual framework that distinguishes methods of detecting measurement bias based on either observed or unobserved conditional invariance models. The primary interest is in group-level measurement bias. Methods for bias detection in both continuous and ordered-categorical measures are reviewed, as are methods for testlets…

Rozeboom, William W. – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
Formulas are provided for estimating the reliability of a linear composite of non-equivalent subtests given the reliabilities of component subtests. The reliability of the composite is compared to that of its components. An empirical example uses data from 170 children aged 4 through 8 years performing 34 Piagetian tasks. (SLD)

Andrich, David – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1989
A probabilistic item response theory (IRT) model is developed for pair-comparison design in which the unfolding principle governing the choice process uses a discriminant process analogous to Thurstone's Law of Comparative Judgment. A simulation study demonstrates the feasibility of estimation, and two examples illustrate the implications for…

Raju, Nambury S.; And Others – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1991
A two-parameter logistic regression model for personnel selection is proposed. The model was tested with a database of 84,808 military enlistees. The probability of job success was related directly to trait levels, addressing such topics as selection, validity generalization, employee classification, selection bias, and utility-based fair…
