A logically constructed format for the recording of the patient's personality profile is proposed. The term "personality" is used in a broad sense and refers to data that should be part of the patient's clinical record in any clinical situation and that describe the patient's general vulnerability. It exposes students to clinical psychiatry through outpatient and emergency experiences and also to psychosocial aspects of medicine through interviews with ordinary patients and their families. A weekly, hour-long seminar held for medical residents in a county hospital helped house staff members in making psychiatric diagnoses, understanding how psychiatric difficulties are part of medical problems, learning the use of psychtropic drugs, being able to provide support and continuing of care, and developing communication skills. It was hypothesized that students would perceive the relative importance of biomedical and biopsychosocial assessments differentially based on the diagnoses of the patients and the students' level of training.
