Librarians have been challenged to make the public and the government aware of the value of library services. They must do battle to save programs threatened by cuts in federal funds. The Congress must be urged to reestablish the budget control which has been assumed by the executive branch. (DH)

This analysis of life style data on a random sample of 423 adults demonstrates the value of such data in identifying the needs and interests of a community, and suggests ways in which such information can be used in planning and promoting public library programs. Twelve references are listed. (JL)
