Critical Reflective Practice for Art Educators
Art Education, v76 n1 p28-31 2023
During the summer of 2020, in response to the murder of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officers, many people in the United States mobilized to address systems of oppression that function through power dynamics around race and its intersections with factors like class and gender. This article is a call for art educators to take this moment to enact critical reflective practice as a method for intentionally building embodied and intuitive awareness around research, teaching, and learning in art education--with a broader vision of moving individually and collectively toward a world that works boldly against oppression. For this article and the current historical moment, we have chosen to focus specifically on mobilizing critical reflective practice toward antiracist research, teaching, and learning in art education.
