During 1974-1978, a six-week senior clerkship was completed by 234 students in six WAMI (Washington, Alaska, Montana, Idaho) family practices. The average student saw 56 percent of diagnoses common in family practice, and performed 26 percent of common procedures. Despite wide regional variation, few differences were seen among the sites. Activities of 20 states in funding these medical schools are reported. They show an increase from $4.0 million in 1975-76 to $5.3 million in 1976-77 in bilateral agreements between individual states and medical schools. Funds provided through regional programs continued a slight decline. (LBH)

Pediatricians' perceived needs seem to change with their increasing distance from the university/hospital teaching center.
