The purpose of these modules is to provide an introduction to the world of probability and statistics to accelerated mathematics students at the high school level. The materials are centered on the fictional town of Happy Shores, a coastal community which is at risk for hurricanes. Actuaries at an insurance company figure out the risks and…

Bloxom, Bruce – Psychometrika, 1985
The use of semiparametric models may require incorporating additional functions which do not vary across distributions and may require expressing the models in terms of the joint distribution of response class and response time. (Author/LMO)

Hecht, Jeffrey B. – 1992
Previous research has demonstrated particular inadequacies in conventional methods used to identify outlier cases in bivariate regression models. Only through a combination of methods can one detect all of the deviant points potentially overinfluencing a regression model's parameters. This paper investigates whether a range of data points might…

Barr, Aiala; Sichel, Herbert S. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1991
Discussion of models for library circulation data highlights a new statistical prediction model that creates a flexible regression curve. Linear graphs that result from previous models are discussed, bivariate discrete distributions are explained, and graphs that show library circulation for one year at a time are presented. Rogers, H. Jane; Swaminathan, Hariharan – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1993
Performance of the logistic regression (LR) procedure was compared to that of the Mantel Haenszel (MH) procedure in the detection of uniform and nonuniform differential item functioning on a simulation examining distributional properties of the LR and MH test statistics and the relative power of the two procedures. (SLD)

Swaminathan, Hariharan; Rogers, H. Jane – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1990
A logistic regression model for characterizing differential item functioning (DIF) between two groups is presented. A distinction is drawn between uniform and nonuniform DIF in terms of model parameters. A statistic for testing the hypotheses of no DIF is developed, and simulation studies compare it with the Mantel-Haenszel procedure. (Author/TJH)
