Peer reviewedErwin, Joan E.; Hunter, John J. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Tested patients (N=80) in an alcoholic rehabilitation program for field dependence with the Embedded Figures Test and for logical reasoning with two Piagetian tasks: the pendulum and the plant problem. Results suggested that cognitive factors play a more important role in alcoholics' response to treatment than has been recognized. (LLL)

Peer reviewedBolton, Brian – Measurement and Evaluation in Counseling and Development, 1992
Used discriminant analysis of U.S. Employment Service (USES) Interest Inventory to correctly classify 34 percent (weighted) and 37 percent (unweighted hit rate) of male graduates (n=282) with severe handicaps from residential medical and vocational rehabilitation facility to employment into eight vocational training groups. Results support…

Perlman, Leonard G.; Hylbert, Kenneth W. – Rehabil Counseling Bull, 1969
Discusses need for early identification to prevent added client failure, unnecessary costs. Affixed approach appears useful but should be cross validated. Findings compared with those of De Mann (1963), Ayer et. al. (1966). Data tables included. (CJ)

Miller, Douglas E.; Kunce, Joseph T. – Measurement and Evaluation in Guidance, 1973
An empirical study of statistical overkill investigated the generalizability of multiple regression equations as a function of the subject/variable ratio. Data from various-sized groups of rehabilitation clients were used to develop the equations. Findings showed that equations developed on samples with less than a 10 to 1 ratio failed to…

Peer reviewedLandrum, James W.; Windham, Gerald O. – Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education, 1981
Compares behavioral and demographic characteristics of drunk drivers with repeated arrests and drivers not having repeated arrests, after attending an alcohol education program. Previous public drunkeness and previous drunk driving arrests were strong predictors of repeat arrests and were judged useful in screening offenders for rehabilitation…

The Drug Abuse Reporting Program (DARP) was initiated in 1969 as a federally supported client reporting system for community-based drug abuse treatment programs. Posttreatment follow-up interviews were conducted with over 4,000 persons from 34 treatment agencies to describe major findings from the drug abuse treatment research of the DARP relating…

Peer reviewedOgborne, Alan C.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1982
Describes a criterion group classification scheme commonly used in conjunction with discriminant function analysis and suggests that clinicians consider membership probabilities for each criterion group of interest. Illustrates this approach using data from a study in which discriminant analysis was used to identify characteristics of problem…

Peer reviewedVan Whitlock, Rod; Lubin, Bernard – Journal of Offender Rehabilitation, 1998
DWI offenders (N=123) referred to treatment who remained drug and alcohol free for six months posttreatment are well distinguished from those returned to court by the Anxiety, Depression, and Sensation Seeking, scales and the composite Dysphoria scale of the Multiple Affect Adjective Check List-Revised administered at intake. Predictive validity…

Shulman, Lee S. – 1967
A longitudinal program of workshop-centered rehabilitation services was administered to mentally retarded adolescents. Results with the 36 remaining at the end of the 3rd year indicated that most characteristics central to vocational development were stable by early adolesence; a "competence cluster" of variables covaried systematically; high and…
