Bernard-Donals, Michael – College English, 2010
The position of the excluded other, it seems to the author, is the position that has characterized Jews since antiquity: exiled from the nation and dispersed to other nations, Jewish participation in civic life has been defined, even in modernity, by its marginalization and precariousness. The Jew, in other words, provides a salient example of the…

Those hostile to the…

Bentley, Susan; Saupe, William – Rural Development Perspectives, 1990
Of southwest Wisconsin farmers who quit farming, 1982-86, 40 percent cited financial reasons, but 60 percent cited health problems, age, or other job opportunities. Most voluntary retirees remained in their homes and were financially secure. Involuntary leavers often improved their incomes, but many relocated and still had farm debts. (Author/SV)

Pfaff, Tim – 1995
Since 1975, the United States has accepted more than 110,000 Laotian highlanders as refugees, the vast majority of whom are Hmong. The Hmong in America trace their Chinese ancestry back thousands of years, but their recent history is rooted in Laos where Hmong families escaped from China in the mid-1800s. It is difficult to overstate the culture…
