Course Apprenticeship-Based Undergraduate Research and Its Impact on Student Degree Interest
Kenneth Drake; Steven Rooney
Journal of Chemical Education, v101 n4 p1741-1746 2024
We present our work on a hybridized undergraduate research model that blends the apprenticeship model with that of a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE) to produce the course apprenticeship-based model (CAB). The purpose of CAB was to incentivize students' interest in undergraduate research at an urban associate granting institution. In this paper, we describe the two models and what led us to incorporate them into CAB. We then summarize how our model was implemented and note that students expressed an increased interest in chemistry upon concluding the course.
