Lyons, Paul R. – Journal of European Industrial Training, 2011
Purpose: This paper aims to complement an earlier article (2010) in "Journal of European Industrial Training" in which the description and theory bases of scenistic methods were presented. This paper also offers a description of scenistic methods and information on theory bases. However, the main thrust of this paper is to describe, give suggested…

Cordray, David; Pion, Georgine; Brandt, Chris; Molefe, Ayrin; Toby, Megan – National Center for Education Evaluation and Regional Assistance, 2012
During the past decade, the use of standardized benchmark measures to differentiate and individualize instruction for students received renewed attention from educators. Although teachers may use their own assessments (tests, quizzes, homework, problem sets) for monitoring learning, it is challenging for them to equate performance on classroom…

Thompson, Bruce – Middle Grades Research Journal, 2009
The present article provides a primer on using effect sizes in research. A small heuristic data set is used in order to make the discussion concrete. Additionally, various admonitions for best practice in reporting and interpreting effect sizes are presented. Among these is the admonition to not use Cohen's benchmarks for "small," "medium," and…

Kidron, Yael; Lindsay, Jim – Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia, 2014
REL Appalachia conducted a systematic review of the research evidence on the effects of increased learning time. After screening more than 7,000 studies, REL Appalachia identified 30 that met the most rigorous standards for research. A review of those 30 studies found that increased learning time does not always produce positive results. However,…

Bentler, Peter M.; Woodward, J. Arthur – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
The Head Start data analyzed by Magidson (1977) were reanalyzed using Joreskog's (1976) LISREL computer program methodology. The hypothesis that the Head Start program produced zero effects on the cognitive abilities of its participants was evaluated by several Chi Square tests. In all cases, the null hypothesis could not be rejected. (Author/CTM)

Magidson, Jay – Evaluation Quarterly, 1978
In a reply to the previous article (TM 503 435), Magidson disparages the arbitrary application of the .05 significance level to these data, responds to several assertions, and provides additional data in support of his original article showing positive effects for Project Head Start. (CTM)

Shapiro, Jonathan – 1979
A statistical definition of information utilization for policy making decisions and an evaluation impact test to determine its occurrence are proposed. A univariate time series analysis is used to identify the internal trend for a given policy output variable and to control its effect. Two problems are identified in implementing an evaluation…
