Henk, William A. – Reading Research Quarterly, 1982
Critically reviews an earlier published study that assessed the sensitivity of the cloze procedure to intersentential integration. (AEA)

Black, Janet K. – Young Children, 1981
Recent research data contest Piaget's conclusion that preschool children are totally egocentric, incapable of taking different perspectives, and prevented from acting altruistically. Children are able to decenter when experiments enable children to use their knowledge of very basic human purposes, intentions, and interactions. (Author/DB)
Descriptors: Cognitive Development, Developmental Stages, Early Experience, Egocentrism
Popham, W. James – Health Education (Washington D.C.), 1982
Health education researchers have occasionally used measuring tools inappropriately. Test validity and the use of criterion-referenced tests are discussed in view of this need to improve health education research. Also described are handbooks containing measuring devices for the use of health education researchers. (CJ)
Descriptors: Criterion Referenced Tests, Educational Research, Health Education, Measurement Techniques

Richardson, John G.; Damron, Elayne – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1981
The gender-linked character of descriptive terms recurrent in studies reporting gender differences in children's play is examined. Wilson, Thomas P. – Sociological Methods and Research, 1979
A recent recommendation by Holt (EJ 200 576) that coefficients resulting from estimating log-linear and similar models should not be interpreted is argued to be based on lack of clarity about the substantive and theoretical importance of the choice between dummy and effect coding for categorical variables. (Author/GDC)
