Smathers, Diane G.; Horridge, Patricia E. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1979
The results from this study indicate that ready-to-wear garments do not accommodate the clothing needs of elderly women; garments do not allow for increased trunk girth, decreased height, or physical impairments. (Author)

Babchuk, Nicholas – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
While very few of the respondents were without very close ties of any kind, those with extensive primary-group resources were more likely to be women rather than men, younger rather than older, married rather than single, and in high- rather than low-status occupations. (Author)

Bell, Bill D. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
Examines three theoretical perspectives relative to prediction of life satisfaction following retirement. Hypotheses derived from crisis, continuity, and consistency theories were examined with regard to pre- and post-retirement satisfaction scores of 114 male respondents. Tedin, Kent L. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
This analysis tested for the effects of age vs social composition in explaining variation in four attitudinal dependent variables. Using a sample especially drawn to study generational differences, and employing a multivariate statistical model, it was found that age differences were only modestly reduced by social composition variables. (Author)

Levy, Sandra M. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
Variation in temporal experience among the aged has been found to be a function of a number of variables. The sociological and phenomenological literature suggest two as being of crucial importance: work and retirement, and health and illness. These were investigated in this study. (Author)

Sherman, Nancy C.; Gold, Joel A. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
Attitudes toward typical and ideal old age was investigated with 78 undergraduates. Half responded to semantic differentials for typical and ideal old age and half to middle age. Old and middle age objects were rated alike at ideal but old was rated less autonomous and instrumental at typical. (Author)

Carp, Frances M. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
Exposure to an environment with increased opportunities resulted in increased activity among a group of elderly persons, compared to similar people in unenriched environments. Persistence of relative elevation in activity over eight years and concomitance with other indexes of well-being suggest appropriate environmental intervention expanding…

Gurland, Barry; And Others – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1977
The Comprehensive Assessment and Referral Evaluation (CARE) is a new assessment technique which is intended to reliably elicit, record, grade and classify information on the health and social problems of the older person. Sherman, Edmund; Newman, Evelyn S. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1977
In this exploratory study, 94 elderly persons, in seven senior service centers and one nursing home, were interviewed to identify and ascertain the meaning of cherished possessions in later years. Lack of cherished possessions was associated with low life satisfaction scores, a suggested indicator of poor adjustment to old age. (Author)

Hickey, Tom; And Others – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1978
The factor analytic model of the practitioner-oriented "Opinions about People" was tested with a population of gerontological practitioners. An analysis eliminated nine items not warranting inclusion in the instrument, redistributed the factors, and brought out a completely new factor. (Author)

Thumin, Fred J. – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1979
A number of ability tests were administered to 187 male job applicants ranging in age from 20 to 53 years. When test performance was compared across age groups, no significant differences were found. The findings are discussed in connection with the generally negative stereotype of the aging worker. (Author)

Cox, Harold; Bhak, Albert – International Journal of Aging and Human Development, 1979
