Cheney, Thomas – Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1975
The effect of attitude similarity and topic importance on attraction was studied by exposing 75 prison inmates, incarcerated for public intoxication, to varying attitudes of a psychotherapist. Subjects were more attracted to the therapist after receiving alcohol items regardless of degree of similarity expressed. (Author)

Three matched groups (n=27) of young adult alcohol offenders, non-alcohol offenders and controls were compared on mental health, use of alcohol, and problem drinking. Implications suggest that excessive drinking may be learned and maintained by psychological, physiological, and/or sociological reinforcement(s). (Author)

A 12-day drinking period was preceded by a 6-day predrinking baseline assessment period and followed by a 4-day postdrinking withdrawal phase. Assesses the locus of control orientation within an alcoholic population and relates this orientation to the degree of cognitive dysfunction.
