The purposes of this study were to identify key communicators within a sample of Research and Development laboratories, to explore those factors which motivate individuals to assume and maintain the role of key communicators, and to derive implications for further study of the characteristics of key communicators in R & D laboratories. Groups of married couples (N=4) were studied using a measure of their marital communication habits and an intensive personal interview.
