Since this study indicates more positive attitudes toward the use of behavior modification as knowledge about the behavioral approach increase, it would appear to be obvious that some exposure to the approach could provide counselors with an increased range of counseling techniques from which they could select an appropriate approach. In this study of high school student perceptions of counselors, perception most frequently differed between freshmen/sophomores and juniors/seniors. This study suggests parents (N=66), teachers (N=77), and students (N=550) all seem to agree that student supervision and discipline are low priority counseling functions. Investigates effects of sex of judge, sex of referent, and sex-pairing of judge and referent on level of understanding, or affective sensitivity, of school counselors. Male and female counselors were found to be equally accurate in their empathic judgments. There were no detected effects of sex-pairing. (Author)

A study involving 541 female students, in four grade levels in an urban commercial secondary school is reported.
