Media Literacy Resources to Support Instruction across Content Areas
Michelle C. Lipkin
Knowledge Quest, v50 n2 p16-18 Nov-Dec 2021
The National Association for Media Literacy Education (NAMLE) is a national non-profit organization that works to make media literacy highly valued and widely practiced as an essential life skill in every school, library, community center, and home in our nation. They define media literacy as the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and act using all forms of communication. NAMLE curates media literacy resource lists that may be of interest to school librarians as they engage with students and teachers on instruction for various subject areas. In addition NAMLE published the "Core Principles of Media Literacy Education" in 2007. The core principles were written to articulate a common ground around which media literacy educators and advocates can coalesce. In this article, Michelle Lipkin, executive director of NAMLE, outlines the work NAMLE does and the resources available to help school librarians.
