This 2002 Unit Cost Study for the Illinois Community Colleges is part of an annual project involving the direct participation of all public community colleges in Illinois. The Study consists of basic enrollment and cost data: (1) midterm enrollments in student semester credit hours; (2) costs for direct instructional salaries; (3) direct departmental costs; and (4) direct instructional equipment costs. The unit costs are shown for a student semester credit hour. The study compares fiscal year 2002 net instructional costs with those of previous years (1997-2001), and includes the percentage change from the previous year for each of the 6 years. The average net instructional unit costs for the state in 2002 were $198.13, up 2.0% from 2001. The study also itemizes the net instructional costs by individual institution for 1997-2002. The state average cost per FTE student was (1) $5,944 for net instructional cost; (2) $6,399 for full instructional cost; and (3) $7,110 for total institutional cost. The net instructional cost by fundable instructional categories was (1) $5,889 for baccalaureate and general academic; (2) $6,234 for business occupational; (3) $7,001 for technical occupational; (4) $8,453 for health occupational; and (5) $5,624 for remedial.
