Technology Leaders Cybersecurity Knowledge in Appalachian Ohio Schools and That Effect on the Schools Financial and Educational Environments
Joshua Montgomery
ProQuest LLC, D.C.S. Dissertation, Colorado Technical University
The problem that was investigated is if the level of cybersecurity knowledge held by technology leaders at Appalachian Ohio schools is placing those schools at risk for exploitation. The research method selected for this study was a quantitative study with a correlational research design. The study looked at two key factors in this relationship, education time loss, and financial loss. The study demonstrates the importance of a relationship between cybersecurity knowledge in technology leaders and the money spent to stop cyberattacks. As knowledge level increases, the amount of money they spent to stop cyberattacks increased (rho= 0.471, p= 0.003). This showed that as knowledge levels increased, the amount of money spent to stop cyberattacks increased. Furthermore, the study demonstrates the importance of a relationship between cybersecurity knowledge and the amount of network downtime (rho= -0.328, p= 0.049). As knowledge level increased, the amount of network downtime decreased. A correlation can be drawn that a loss of network connectivity in the classroom would result in a loss of educational time, showing a positive impact on educational time loss. The study does not implicate the importance of a relationship between cybersecurity knowledge and money stolen from cyberattacks. Furthermore, the study does not show a relationship between knowledge level and the number of cyberattacks (rho= -0.299, p= 0.072). However, the study shows that a relationship exists between cybersecurity knowledge level and the two factors of education time loss and financial loss.
