Examining Factors of Burnout in African American School Counselors
Tanisha Nicole Williams
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
Few research studies have specifically examined burnout-related factors among African American school counselors (Fye et al., 2018; Kim & Lambie, 2018). This correlational, comparative study aimed to integrate diverse perspectives into the literature and validate the experiences of minority school counselors. The findings aligned with the optimal distinctiveness theory and proved that African American school counselors experience burnout at equal rates as their White counterparts (Roccas & Brewer, 2002). The knowledge gained from this study further solidified school counselors' role while addressing stakeholders' misperceptions.
