This report provides a comparison of Austin Independent School District (AISD) teacher salaries and bilingual stipends to those in other Texas districts and analyzes the 2011-2012 school year bilingual stipend distribution within AISD.

About 12% of 2009-2010 AISD kindergarten students left AISD before the 2010-2011 year. The vertical teams with the highest out-of-district mobility for kindergarten students were LBJ (16%), Anderson (14%), and Akins (13%).

On average, Austin Independent School District prekindergarten students scored below the national average range on a test for receptive vocabulary ability in Fall 2012. English language learner students (ELLs) scored lower, on average, than did non-ELLs.

This report suggests potential program sites for the middle school dual language program based on student needs, campus capacity, and parental and staff interest.

English language learner (ELL) students may have different instructional needs based on their English proficiency, academic knowledge, and number of years in U.S. schools. Analysis of these data helped define 6 ELL performance groups at the 9th grade level. Spring 2012 student assessment data were analyzed for these students in this report.

Data in this report suggest that AISD's full-day prekindergarten (pre-K) program helped reduce the number of students who were retained a grade level or were placed in special education services. The cost per student for full-day pre-K was less than the costs associated with grade-level retention or special education services.

The AISD prekindergarten (pre-K) program advanced nearly one-third of students to above the national average in receptive vocabulary ability in their native language by Spring 2012, with more than 50% of students scoring above the national average on the test.
