In order to teach high school students to transfer skills learned in school media centers to public libraries, public librarians visit classes whose students have been assigned term papers. They present information on reference materials students will need to complete their assignments, including those not available in most media centers. (EM)

Assessed library instruction initiatives with respect to OPACs by surveying 414 academic, public, school, and special libraries. Most participants' libraries have modified library OPAC software; librarians continue to teach use of the online catalog; few systems have built-in tutorials; and few have computer-assisted instruction.
