Journal of College Student Development, v66 n2 p223-229 2025
The "Building Bridges Graduation" honors the cultural and familial importance of Transfronterizx [Transborder] students' achievements. Hosting graduations across the border reflects a deep institutional commitment to inclusion, equity, and the generational success of these students. This initiative expands opportunities for historically marginalized communities, aligning with institutional values of diversity and student support, especially at Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) along the U.S.-México borderlands (Border-HSIs). This article presents the timeline, steps, and nuances that entail the first Transborder graduation in the history of education in the U.S.-México borderlands, while signaling the emotions of the second author, one of the leading student organizers. The authors aim to inspire educators at the borderlands to implement similar initiatives in their institutions.
