Ellis, Susanne D. – 1977
This document presents the summary results of the 1976 employment survey of physics and astronomy graduates of the class of 1975-76 as conducted by the American Institute of Physics (AIP). Data presented include employment status 6-18 months after graduation; background characteristics of doctoral, master's and bachelor's level physicists; time…

Physics Today, 1978
The survey shows a definite improvement in the number of jobs which were available for the holders of a Bachelors' Degree in Physics and Astronomy in 1967-77 as compared to 1968-69. The number of students majoring in physics and astronomy is on the rise, and many of them pursue graduate programs in those fields. (GA)

Panofsky, Wolfgang K. H. – Physics Today, 1975
Describes the decline in available physics positions in the academic areas. Indicates that the future need for physicists is unclear and states that the present federal funding patterns are not consistent with good practices of research and development. Summarizes new information in the field of elementary-particle physics. (GS)

Ellis, Susanne D. – 1978
The data presented, illustrated with tables and graphs, include postbaccalaureate plans of physics bachelors (including trends since l969); characteristics of bachelor's degree recipients; postbaccalaureate plans of minority group physics bachelors; type of baccalaureate plan; sources of anticipated support for first-year graduate study, 1974-77;…

Jones, Robert R., Ed. – Research & Development, 1988
Presents the results of a survey of engineers in R&D. Reports 1987 pay raises, highest academic degree, salary range, age and experience for 12 engineering fields. Compares these results to other years. Concludes that many variables led to overall gains for metallurgists and biologists and losses for mathematicians and ceramists. (CW)

Gerlovich, Jack A.; Howe, Trevor G. – Science Teacher, 1983
Estimated supply of secondary biology, chemistry, physics, general science, earth science, and mathematics teachers by state (including American Samoa and Puerto Rico) for 1980-1982 are provided. Data, obtained from state science supervisors, indicates surplus, slight surplus, shortage, critical shortage, or no response in each category for each…

Porter, Beverly Fearn; Kelly, William H. – Physics Today, 1983
Examines why fewer college graduates from physics and science education departments become secondary school science teachers, what physics teachers encounter once they enter secondary schools, and why physics teachers leave secondary schools. Issues related to the latter area include low salaries, poorly equipped facilities, nonteaching duties,…

Palumbo, Thomas J.; And Others – Current Population Reports, 1980
Statistical information, based on the 1978 survey in a series of biennial surveys known as the National Sample of Scientists and Engineers, sponsored by the National Science Foundation and conducted by the Bureau of the Census is presented. Individuals in the field of physical sciences are profiled, including chemists, physicists and astronomers,…
