Describes an inservice and summer institute for 23 Chicago area community college teachers. The institute lasted four weeks. Included in the program were field and laboratory studies at 15 urban locations and presentations from 20 experts at these locations. (SH)

Describes an urban environmental education program in which an overgrown vacant lot has been used for environmental study and for the development of a productive garden. The program has been successful in providing elementary school children with positive experiences in their own urban environment. (JR)

As North America increasingly becomes an urban society, questions surface as to the role and direction of environmental education programs. Such programs may hold potential in abating some of the problems inherent with contemporary inner city youth. Several successful on-going programs are reviewed. (Author/CW)
