Journal of Chemical Education, v101 n4 p1564-1573 2024
Microfluidic-based ultramicroscale chemistry experiments involve the manipulation and consumption of reagents on a microliter or submicroliter scale in a microfluidic device. This article presents the pedagogical functions of microfluidic systems, including green chemistry education, stimulation of students' interest in learning about chemistry, interdisciplinary education, and learning of scientific knowledge. We also review the development of educational courses and platforms for implementing microfluidic education and examine the teaching and learning forms in microfluidic education, including demonstrations, laboratory experiments, comprehensive training, inquiry-based activities, and project or problem-based learning.
