Personal Care Chemistry as a Bridge to Careers in Science and Technology
Mabrouk, Patricia
Science Scope, v30 n4 p38-43 Dec 2006
In this article, the author describes several activities in personal care chemistry that provide middle school girls with opportunities to learn firsthand about science and engineering technology. These activities--the preparation of lip balm and hand lotion--are fun, easy to do, and make use of relatively inexpensive, safe, environmentally benign, and readily available materials. These activities have tremendous potential for captivating the interest of middle school girls and may encourage them in their pursuit of careers in science and technology.
