Kirsch, Stephen A. – Journal of Geological Education, 1971
Descriptors: Concept Formation, Earth Science, Geology, Instructional Materials

Curtis, George D.; Williams, John W. – Journal of Geological Education, 1978
A description and plans for a working model to demonstrate rotational slope failure are presented. (MR)
Descriptors: Demonstrations (Educational), Earth Science, Geology, Instruction

Dutch, Steven I. – Journal of Geological Education, 1986
Offers instructions and geometrical data for constructing solids of the enantiomorphous symmetry classes 233 and 432. Provides background information for each class and highlights symmetrical relationships and construction patterns. (ML)
Descriptors: College Science, Crystallography, Geology, Higher Education

Metzger, Ellen Pletcher – Journal of Geological Education, 1995
Describes resources for information and activities involving volcanoes. Includes an activity that helps students become familiar with the principal types of volcanoes and explores how the viscosity of magma affects the way a volcano erupts. (MKR)
Descriptors: Earth Science, Educational Resources, Geology, High Schools

Carey, Edward F. – Journal of Geological Education, 1978
Describes ways of projecting stereoscopic images of geologic environments for students with difficulty reasoning in three-dimensions. The photographic procedures needed to produce stereo slides are included. (MA)
Descriptors: Abstract Reasoning, Earth Science, Geology, Instructional Materials

Schwartz, Maurice L.; Stoever, Edward C., Jr. – Journal of Geological Education, 1978
The development of the Crustal Evolution Education Project (C EEP) materials at Western Washington University is described. (MDR)
Descriptors: Curriculum Development, Earth Science, Geology, Instructional Materials

Corbett, Robert G.; Quick, Thomas J. – Journal of Geological Education, 1986
Suggests how modifications on a mini-compressor can result in a low-cost vacuum filtration system for use with suspended sediments in the field or laboratory. Explains and illustrates the changes needed to make the apparatus efficient and servicable for providing data for mass balance, geochemical exploration, and environmental studies. (ML)
Descriptors: College Science, Environmental Education, Field Instruction, Geology

Davis, Larry Eugene; And Others – Journal of Geological Education, 1994
Offers a library resource exercise developed as a collaborative effort between the geology department and the library staff to introduce students to library usage and geological literature. Students can be expected to use these library skills to conduct subsequent subject-area research. Benefits include the ability to address large numbers of…

Wall, Charles A.; Wall, Janet E. – Journal of Geological Education, 1975
Descriptors: Bibliographies, Doctoral Dissertations, Earth Science, Geology

Sunderman, Jack Allen – Journal of Geological Education, 1987
Describes methods which can be used to produce high quality duplicate slide sets or black-and-white prints either for use in the classroom or for scientific purposes. Reviews some technical problems in duplicating slides. (ML)
Descriptors: Audiovisual Aids, College Science, Geology, Higher Education

Williams, John Wharton; Fox, Dennis James – Journal of Geological Education, 1986
Presents a model for demonstrating soil mass stabilization. Explains how this approach can assist students in understanding the various types of soil reinforcement techniques, their relative contribution to increased soil strength, and some of their limitations. A working drawing of the model and directives for construction are included. (ML)
Descriptors: College Science, Demonstrations (Educational), Geology, Higher Education

Wall, Charles; Wall, Janet – Journal of Geological Education, 1974
Presents a compilation of earth science educational materials, including curricula, books, textbooks, doctoral dissertations, and professional readings. (MLH)

Metz, Robert – Journal of Geological Education, 1982
Aluminum foil can be used to make impressions of structures preserved in sedimentary rock. The impressions can be projected onto a screen, photographed, or a Plaster of Paris model can be made from them. Impressions of ripple marks, mudcracks, and raindrop impressions are provided in photographs illustrating the technique. (Author/JN)
Descriptors: College Science, Geology, Higher Education, Paleontology

Shea, James H. – Journal of Geological Education, 1980
Describes a plexiglass and aluminum model of a Wadati zone suitable for classroom exercises and demonstrations in earth science to let students test the hypothesis that earthquake hypocenters near oceanic trenches tend to occur along planes that dip away from the trenches, toward associated island arc or continental mountain chain. (Author/JN)
