Jiang, Hai – 1999
The purpose of this paper is to describe the techniques used in establishing the concordance tables between the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), paper and pencil (P&P), and computer-based testing (CBT) sections and total reported score scales. Listening, reading, and composite structure and essay scores plus a total score are…

Sykes, Robert C.; Ito, Kyoko – Applied Psychological Measurement, 1997
Evaluated the equivalence of scores and one-parameter logistic model item difficulty estimates obtained from computer-based and paper-and-pencil forms of a licensure examination taken by 418 examinees. There was no effect of either order or mode of administration on the equivalences. (SLD)

Luecht, Richard M.; Hirsch, Thomas M. – 1990
The derivation of several item selection algorithms for use in fitting test items to target information functions is described. These algorithms circumvent iterative solutions by using the criteria of moving averages of the distance to a target information function and simultaneously considering an entire range of ability points used to condition…

DeAyala, R. J.; Koch, William R. – 1986
A computerized flexilevel test was implemented and its ability estimates were compared with those of a Bayesian estimation based computerized adaptive test (CAT) as well as with known true ability estimates. Results showed that when the flexilevel test was terminated according to Lord's criterion, its ability estimates were highly and…

Weiss, David J.; McBride, James R. – 1983
Monte Carlo simulation was used to investigate score bias and information characteristics of Owen's Bayesian adaptive testing strategy, and to examine possible causes of score bias. Factors investigated in three related studies included effects of item discrimination, effects of fixed vs. variable test length, and effects of an accurate prior…

Wise, Steven L.; And Others – Journal of Educational Measurement, 1992
Performance of 156 undergraduate and 48 graduate students on a self-adapted test (SFAT)--students choose the difficulty level of their test items--was compared with performance on a computer-adapted test (CAT). Those taking the SFAT obtained higher ability scores and reported lower posttest state anxiety than did CAT takers. (SLD)
