The University of Southwestern Louisiana has made a previously required language laboratory course an elective course and has changed the regular two-hour-per-week requirement for those who enroll to a twenty-hour semester total requirement. A discussion of the use of films in foreign language teaching. A particular problem is the lack of readily available foreign language films without subtitles. A procedure for modification of the sixteen millimeter projector in order to obscure subtitles is described in detail. (AMH)

In 1975 all four-year and two-year colleges in the country offering two or more foreign languages were surveyed regarding use of videotape in language instruction. Questions were asked regarding types of equipment, use and acceptability, and answers indicate great interest in videotape potential and pedagogical value. (CHK)

A survey of college students' attitudes toward use of the language laboratory found that an initial positive attitude toward the laboratory in the first semester becomes more negative during the second semester, suggesting that new instructional materials are needed to maintain the initial favorable attitude toward the laboratory.
