Zahra Sadat Roozafzai; Parisa Zaeri – International Online Journal of Primary Education, 2025
Earth science concepts can be challenging for children to grasp due to their abstract nature. This study explores the potential of 3D computer animation as an engaging and effective medium to communicate various earth science processes to young learners. By creating age-appropriate, scientifically accurate visualizations of geological features and…

Shayer, Michael – Research Papers in Education, 1986
The relationship of cognitive development to learning science is considered. Views of thinking from both a psychological and a scientific standpoint are compared in order to shed light on current science teaching practice. Metacognition and problem solving are discussed. (Author/MT)

Linn, Marcia C.; Pulos, Steven – Journal of Educational Psychology, 1983
Gender differences in predicting displaced volume did not reflect gender differences in spatial ability, field-dependence-independence, or Piagetian formal reasoning. In addition, gender differences were not accounted for by science and math course-taking experience. (Author/PN)

Millar, R. – Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, 1991
It is argued that science's reputation as a "hard" subject can be attributed to four intrinsic features of science and/or learners. The reasons for a link between abstraction and difficulty are briefly explored. It is suggested that certain extrinsic features of science education, resulting from choices by science educators, exacerbate these…

Palmer, David – Research in Science Education, 1996
Investigates factors affecting students' ability to consistently apply the concept of adaptations. Individual interviews were conducted with 74 Year 10 students in Australia, of whom only 47% showed an understanding of the concept. It was found that the students were more likely to apply the concept to vertebrates. (AIM)

Adey, Philip – School Science Review, 1987
Describes the reasoning patterns characteristic of the abstract thinking required for higher levels of school science. Discusses control and exclusion of variables, ratio and proportion, conservation involving models, compensation and equilibrium, correlation, probability, combinatorial thinking, coordination of frames of reference, and…
