Austin, Joe Dan; Austin, Kathleen A. – School Science and Mathematics, 1974
Students from two junior high school mathematics classes were assigned either to a treatment in which every homework problem was graded or to one in which a random half of the problems were graded. There were not significant differences between treatment groups on achievement after a six-week period. (JP)

Autrey, Melanie Ann; Austin, Joe Dan – Mathematics Teacher, 1979
An alternate method for factoring quadratic equations is presented as being quicker and easier to use than the trial-and-error method. (MP)

Austin, Joe Dan – School Science and Mathematics, 1976
Students in nine classes were randomly assigned to treatment groups receiving (1) written comments on their homework papers or (2) no comments. In two of the classes, the students receiving comments showed achievement superior to that of the others. In the remainder of the classes there was no difference. (SD)

The problems involved in making reservations for airline flights is discussed in creating a mathematical model designed to maximize an airline's income. One issue not considered in the model is any public relations problem the airline may have. The model does take into account the issue of denied boarding compensation. (MP)

Austin, Joe Dan – Mathematics Teacher, 1982
The unmarked protractor appears to have been ignored in considerations of construction tools other than the standard straightedge and compass. Some geometric problems are presented which are designed to be done using only the unmarked protractor. They are thought to provide challenges to better students. (MP)
