Goh, N. K.; And Others – Journal of Chemical Education, 1989
Provided is a model to depict how the development of process skills can be systematically achieved and in turn determine the students' achievement in science practicals. Modified laboratory instruction is compared with conventional laboratory instruction. The results of field testing on 164 ninth grade subjects are described. (MVL)

MacKenzie, I. Scott – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1988
Explores the application of the microcomputer as an adjunct to laboratory experiments within the science curriculum. Identifies needs and critical competitors that may affect implementation. Indicates problems along with suggestions for improving the effectiveness of this method. (RT)

Ato, Tortiv; Wilkinson, William J. – Research in Science and Technological Education, 1986
Examines the influence of both teacher and pupil use of science equipment on Nigerian students' attitudes to science. Test results from students in 36 secondary schools indicated that schools making considerable use of science equipment, particularly with girls, were associated with more positive attitudes to many aspects of science. Mattheis, Floyd E.; Nakayama, Genzo – 1988
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a laboratory-centered inquiry program on laboratory skills, science process skills, and knowledge/understanding. The inquiry approach used in the Foundational Approaches in Science Teaching (FAST) program and a traditional science textbook approach were compared in terms of the three…

Doran, Rod, Ed. – 1985
Suggestions for instructional improvement are offered to science teachers in this compilation of research summaries which addresses specific areas of science education. This series examines the topic areas of: (1) computer use in science instruction (reviewing five categories of computer use which focus on the learner); (2) the role of the…

Friedler, Yael; Tamir, Pinchas – 1984
The intended, perceived, implemented, and achieved curriculum of high school biology classes in Israel was studied using a variety of data sources and research methodologies. The intended curriculum was identified by analysis of commonly used laboratory manuals. The perceived curriculum was captured by procuring the views of teachers and students…

Fox, John N.; Eddy, Jerry K. – Journal of Computers in Mathematics and Science Teaching, 1990
This paper describes how computers were employed by workshop participants, the commercial materials used, some of the experiments performed using computer interfaces, and the effect of computer interfacing on the science laboratory. Increased student interest through the study of open-ended experiments is discussed. (CW)
