Proposed a refinement, based on the stratification of items developed by D. Weiss (1973), of the computerized adaptive testing item selection procedure of H. Chang and Z. Ying (1999). Simulation studies using an item bank from the Graduate Record Examination show the benefits of the new procedure. (SLD)

Explored how allowing examinees to select test questions affected examinee performance and test characteristics for a measure of ability to generate hypotheses about a situation. Results with 2,429 examinees who elected the choice condition on the Graduate Record Examination suggest that items are differentially attractive to examinees. (SLD)

Examined the selection ratio for 253 doctorate-level psychology programs. Used the selection ratio to estimate the existing range restriction on the Graduate Examination (GRE) (referred to as General Record Examination) scores in validation studies.
